01 SHIFT SUPERVISOR

Job Description
Reporting directly to the Technical Coordinator, the Shift Supervisor oversees the Shelter Support Workers and ensures the smooth operation of the shelter during their shift. While actively participating in frontline interventions, the Shift Supervisor coordinates staff duties, ensures compliance with policies, procedures, and safety standards, and provides the necessary guidance during routine or complex situations.
The Shift Supervisor contributes to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment while promoting a low-barrier approach focused on residents’ needs and their progress toward housing stability. The Shift Supervisor serves as a resource person for the team during the shift and ensures continuity of operations in accordance with Maison Nazareth’s guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Shelter Support Workers during the shift and ensure the smooth operation of the shelter’s daily activities.
- Organize the work, establish priorities, assign tasks to team members, and ensure follow-up on their completion during the shift.
- Provide Shelter Support Workers with the guidance, direction, and support required to carry out their daily responsibilities.
- Actively participate in frontline interventions and support team members in complex situations requiring the Shift Supervisor’s involvement.
- Ensure compliance with Maison Nazareth’s policies, procedures, protocols, and safety standards during the shift.
- Ensure consistent application of the shelter’s low-barrier principles and support the team in removing barriers that may limit residents’ access to services.
- Collaborate with Case Managers to promote a coordinated approach and support residents’ housing stability goals.
Required Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Social Work, Psychology, Crisis Intervention, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Training and/or experience in the following areas:
- Trauma-informed care;
- Harm reduction, including substance use and overdose response;
- Crisis prevention and verbal de-escalation.
- Experience in supervision, leadership, or team coordination, preferably in a shelter, community organization, or social services environment.
- Experience working with vulnerable or marginalized populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, and/or substance use issues.
- Experience in crisis intervention and maintaining a trauma-informed environment.
- Experience collaborating with community partners, including Social Development, the RCMP, healthcare providers, donors, and other community organizations, to support clients’ needs and service delivery.
Certifications and Requirements
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS).
- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.
- Crisis de-escalation and overdose response training, including certification in naloxone administration.
- Successful and maintained Criminal Record Check / Vulnerable Sector Check.

- Availability: Flexibility to work morning, evening, and night shifts.
- Salary: $23;40 per hour.
- Work Schedule: 40 hours per week.
